From Jet Set Radio Wiki
Beat is a rudie and the original leader of the GG's in Jet Set Radio.
He first appears in Dogenzaka Hill in JSRF and is unlocked after beating a compulsory race with him

[edit] Appearance
In JSR he wears a yellow top with Japanese letters, black pants and yellow skates. He wears goggles with 'soundwave' lines through the middle and headphones. Although this appearance is dropped in JSRF, in the later game Sega Superstars Tennis, he is shown in his original JSR clothing, but with yellow goggles opposed to green.
Like most characters in this game, Beat under goes a appearance change. Although it is a minor change compared to most characters, he has noticeable differences. In JSRF, he is taller and such assumed to be older than he was in JSR. He shirt remains the same but with black sleeves with studs in the shoulders. Also, his skates have been change from yellow to black with neon blue strips. His goggles have been slightly tweaked to be a bit pointier at the edges and are now blue. Finally, his headphones remain the the same but with spikes added to each side, becoming a noticeable feature on the alien logo of the game.
[edit] Antagonist
Beat is known as the face of the Jet set radio franchise, despite not playing a large part in JSRF unless the player chooses so. Rumors began that he would become the mascot for Smilebit, unfortunately they were pulled back into SEGA before this happened
[edit] JSRF Stats
Beat is a reasonable good character to be, for speed and control balanced.
[edit] Importance to JSRF
Like most characters, Beat doesn't play a major role unless chosen to but he has some features that make him stand out
~ He is on the cover of the Japanese, European and American covers
~ The logo has headphones exactly like Beats
~ Although he is not one of the GG's you start of playing as, he is shown skating with them in the title screen
~ In the game, a new gang appears called the 'zero beats' which are robot versions of Beat (much like the robot version of Yoyo only these are obviously robots from the colour scheme and layout of their bodies.)
~ He has arguably got one of the best stats in JSRF for beginners
